It didn’t take long for Ryouma to realize that the forest was responding favorably to Kouta’s presence. A far cry from the grasping leaves and tripping roots that the forest usually greeted Ryouma with when he did bother trying to move around.
Today’s street fashion lesson is about Amekaji (アメカジ) style! Amekaji is short for American casual and is modeled after American brands to create a relaxed look. This style has a wide range of subsets: Western, Surfer, University Student, Worker, Military, and Biker. The style tends to flux depending on the area and subset specificity of the brand. The most popular Amekaji look of today has a somewhat relaxed, natural feel and is popular among men right now.
Kouta from Kamen Rider Gaim is a good example of Amekaji style. Let’s take a look at the main items in Kouta’s closet:
button-down western shirts
All of these items correspond with an Amekaji look and have a very relaxed, outdoorsman type association. The colors and patterns chosen also affect the look. Kouta most often wears toned down, warm earth and jewel tones along with neutrals and patterns like check and plaid. Here is a small list of some Amekaji brands that includes some you might even know: L.L. Bean, RalphLauren, Eddie Bauer, and GAP. Although this list is short and there are many more brands to discover, I feel the brands chosen give an easy understanding of the general Amekaji look. And in case you were wondering, yes, DOARAT is also considered an Amekaji brand!
